Welcome

An Austin Original

The Austin Ginger Man has been serving fine beers since 1994. The third member of the Ginger Man family, the Austin bar has high, expansive ceilings as well as cozy snugs. Like the other Ginger Man pubs, there is an outside beer garden perfect for enjoying a sunny afternoon. Need a map?

We hope you enjoy this virtual visit to our pub, but it pales in comparison to actually stopping in for a refreshing pint.

We've found a new home!

We've rented space at 301 Lavaca, a mere stones-throw away, and hope to move in by the end of the year. Plans have been made, and construction has started. We'll miss the 20-foot ceilings in this old warehouse, but we think we can make the new place just as comfortable and friendly. Our deep knowledge of beer, including how to properly store and serve it, and our commitment to providing excellent service, will continue in our new home.

Dogtoberfest
A Benefit for Blue Dog Rescue was held on October 12th

Thanks to hundreds of Texas dog lovers, Dogtoberfest 2008 was a tremendous success. Initial tallying indicates that over $10,000 was collected for Blue Dog Rescue. In the words of Laura from Blue Dog Rescue: "Not only did we raise money yesterday but I hope we also raised awareness. And the money we did raise will spay and neuter a lot of dogs, it will provide heartworm preventative and vaccinations, it will allow us to consider taking that special needs dog that may need an expensive surgery...it will help the dogs in so, so many ways."

Tony Romano took a bunch of photos at the event, and you can see them on his flickr site. We also have some amateur photos taken with less impressive cameras (like my iPhone) on our new ZenPhoto album.

New beer on draught (coming throughout the month)

St. Arnold Christmas Ale -"A rich, hearty ale perfect for the holiday season with a malty sweetness and spicy hop character. The generous use of five different malts is responsible for the full flavor and high alcohol level of this beer."

"Malted Barley: We use five different types of malted barley in the Christmas Ale, no other grains or cereals such as corn or rice. The large quantity of malts is responsible for the sweetness and high alcohol content."

"Hops: We use two different Pacific Northwest hop varieties in the Christmas Ale. The resulting hop character is a spicy bitterness and a flowery hop bouquet."

Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale - "represents a time honored tradition of brewing a special beer for the holiday season. There are generous portions of barley malts and fine whole hops of several varieties, creating a brew with a full, rich and hearty character."
http://www.sierra-nevada.com/html/beers/celebrat.html

Victory Storm King (Imperial Stout) - "With a huge, Pacific Northwest hop aroma & character upfront, Storm King subsides into massive, roast malt complexity. More flavor than mere words can adequately describe. Rich and substantial, it will warm your heart."
http://www.victorybeer.com/storm_king.html

Sierra Nevada Harvest - "is very unique in that the hops are used fresh and not processed (i.e., kiln-dried and pressed into bales). Due to the hand-crafted nature of this brew and the variation of hops used, Harvest Ale presents unique hoppy characteristics from year to year."

Breckenridge Vanilla Porter - "Who would have thought deep in the jungles of Papua New Guinea and Madagascar grew the perfect ingredient to build an extraordinary Porter in Colorado? An ale that has all the chocolate and roasted nut flavor of a classic Porter, with an enigmatic surprise thrown in for good measure, real vanilla bean. Breckenridge Brewery’s Vanilla Porter. A vanilla kiss in a rich, dark sea."

Dogfish Head Midas Touch Golden Elixir - "This recipe is the actual oldest-known fermented beverage in the world! Our recipe showcases the known ingredients of barley, white Muscat grapes, honey & saffron found in the drinking vessels in King Midas' tomb! Somehwere between a beer, wine and mead, this smooth, dry ale will please with Chardonnay or I.P.A. drinker alike."

Left Hand Twin Sisters - "A literal hop-farm with twice the amount of hops as most IPA's, Twin Sisters grabs your nose up front with its sweet pine and citrusy aromas. An assertive attack of sharp, flinty hop flavors takes you from dreaming about wildflower honey to the tongue awakening earthy, bitter hop resins that swirl in to finish. Balanced with a robust, malty backbone, Twin Sisters is incredibly drinkable-you might not even know the alcohol is there (dare we say the evil twin sister?).

512 Pecan Porter - "This nearly black Porter is made with US 2-row and Crystal malts along with Baird’s Chocolate and Black malts. Mild smooth hop bitterness is contrasted with sharp black malt bitterness. It has a full body and malty sweetness balanced with subtle pecan aroma and flavor from locally grown pecans. Yet another true Austin original!"

New beer in a bottle

Flying Dog Woody Creek White Belgian Wit - "Our tribute to the town we consider to be "Gonzo Ground Zero"... Woody Creek White is a traditional Belgian-style Wit Beer, brewed with unique ingredients like orange peel and coriander, resulting in a refreshing and slightly citrus flavor, perfect for the "Dog Days of Summer"."
http://www.flyingdogales.com/beer-woody-creek-white.asp

Ayinger Oktober Fest Marzen - "The beer is a full-bodied, rich lager. It has a malty bouquet with a hint of sweetness: think of the best oatmeal you ever had, then multiply by a thousand. Color is deep gold and the flavor is the perfect balance: malt backbone with depth and richness; complimented by soft dryness from long maturation; and alcohol of 5.6% by volume. Fest-Marzen is spiced with enough hops to make it a snappy and thirst-quenching, but in the classic Bavarian style it's not highly bitter."

Erdinger Pikantus - "For some people, Erdinger Weissbier Pikantus 'dark bock beer' is a delicacy to be enjoyed in the colder months of the year. For lovers of strong beer, however, the season for Pikantus lasts a full twelve months. At 7.3% alcohol, this specialty wheat beer has a considerably higher alcohol content than other varieties produced by Erdinger Weissbräu. The dark bock beer owes its sharp and full flavor to the use of selected dark wheat and barley malts and a significantly longer maturing process. In contrast to many bock beers, Erdinger Weissbier Pikantus 'dark bock beer' does not taste too sweet. Despite its higher alcohol content, Erdinger's master brewers have succeeded in retaining the smooth Pikantus flavor."
